Currently in the Doctoral (Ph. D.) degree program in Epidemiology (since 1999) under the Dept. of Epidemiology, University of yes">  California, Los Angeles, USA [

Areas of interest:

Methodologic issues in Epidemiology;  Epidemiology of HIV in developing countries; Diarrheal diseases epidemiology.

Conferences / Seminars / Short courses attended:

 i) Delivered a  talk on “Polimyelitis: Strategies for its eradication”  at the National institute of Cholera &       Enteric Diseases, Calcutta in 1995.

 ii) Delivered a presentation on “ Eficacy of hypo-osmolar glucose –bases and rice based oral rehydration solutions in the treatment of cholera in adults” yes"> in a one day symposium on diarrhoeal diseases held on the occasion of 85th  Anniversary  Celebration of the I.C.M.R. at the National Institute of Cholera & Enteric Diseases, Calcutta on July 23, 1996.

iii) Participated in the CME programe yes">   on “ New  Vistas of Hematology” organized  by the Society of Hematology & Blood Transfusion, Calcutta at the B.R. Singh Railway Hospital, Calcutta on November 8, 1998.

iv) Delivered  a presentation on “ Risk reduction among injection drug users: Role of methadone maintenance programs”  to the students in the Community Health Sciences Department at U.C.L.A. , Los  Angeles, in the Winter Quarter, 2000.

v) Completed a 3 – month course on research ethics entitled “Responsible Conduct of Research”  in the Fall Quarter, 2000,  conducted by the UCLA School of Medicine, UCLA, Los Angeles.

vi) Participated in the Panel Discussion on “HIV/AIDS in Asia”  and delivered a presentation entitled “HIV/AIDS  in India : A Nation’s  Struggle to Control the Epidemic”  in the Western Conference of the Association for Asian Studies (WCAAS) held at the California State  University, Long Beach,  California during October 6 –7 , 2000.

vii) Participated  in a workgroup  on Research Ethics held at the National Institute of Cholera & Enteric Diseases, Kolkata – 700 010 during 24th – 27th March, 2003.

viii) Taught a visiting W.H.O Fellow about Basic  Epidemiologic Methods at the  National Institute of Cholera & Enteric Diseases, Kolkata – 700 010 during 20th March – 8th  April, 2003

ix) Delivered guest lectures on different methodologic issues in the Orientation Programme on Concepts and Applications of Clinical Epidemiology organized by the Dept. of Epidemiology, All India Institute of Hygiene and Public Health during  9th – 11th  April , 2003.
