His field of specialization is pathophysiology with special emphasis on the pathogenic mechanism of different diarrhoeagenic organisms. His current interest is investigation of receptor specificity and signal transudation mechanisms of different bacterial toxins. He has published sixty papers. His affiliations include membership of the Editorial Board of Indian Journal of Physiology and Allied Sciences, life membership, Sectional Committee, Section of Physiology and Medical Sciences, Assistant General Secretary of the Physiological Society of India, Secretary, Prof. N.M.Basu Memorial Committee in Biomedical Sciences, Joint Organizing Secretary, 3rd Congress of Federation of Indian Physiological Societies, year 2000. and guest Lecturer/ examiner of several universities.He was awarded the Ramendra Sunder Sinha Memorial award in 1999 for his scientific contribution on bacterial toxins. He has been elected as president, secron of physiologs, 89th session of Indian Science congress Ansociahin2001-2002. Dr.Chakrabarti was a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Kansas, USA from 1986-88.
