Date Of Birth: 18th November 1952, joined NICED, Kolkata on 28th December,1990.
Age : 54 years.
His field of specialization is molecular biology in relation to viral diseases especially HIV/AIDS and Rotavirus. His work on the vaccinia virus which was used in eradication of small pox received great appreciation from the scientific community and the vaccinia virus expression vectors with new promoters/regulatory sequences constructed by him are used in several laboratories. He has published forty papers. His affiliations include membership of Society of Biological Chemists (India) and Indian Science News Association. He is a member of the National expert committee on HIV/AIDS and has represented Govt. of India in Several delegations. He received several awards from National and Foreign agencies like Invention award from NIH, USA in 1986, Director's award from NII, India in 1988,Special award from NIH, USA in 1990 and Prof.S.R. Moitra Memorial Award from Physiological Society of India in 1993.Dr,Chakrabarty was a visiting fellow at National Institutes of Health, USA and has also worked as a visiting associate as well as visiting scientist at NIH,USA.
