Krishnan, M.Sc.,Ph.d., Assistant Director .
Date of Birth: 2nd April, 1956, joined NICED, Kolkata on 27th May, 1988.
Age
: 50 years.
Her field of specialization is molecular virology and electron microscopy, especially
of enteric viruses such as rotavirus, adenovirus, astrovirus, Netwalk virus
and Sapporo virus. She has published twelve papers and also participated in
International Congress of Virology meetings help in Glasgow, Jerusalem and Sydney.
Her affiliations include life membership of Society of Biological Chemists (India)
and Electron Microscope Society of India and Membership of Indian Association
of Pathologists and Microbiologists, Indian Science Congress and Society of
General Microbiology,UK.
Dr.Krishnan was a visiting researcher under the Indo-UK collaborative research
project "ROLE OF ZOONOTIC TRANSMISSION IN ROTAVIRUS INFECTION" to
the laboratory of dr.Ulrich Desselberger, consultant Virologist and Director
of Public Health Laboratory Services (PHLS), Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge,
UK for one year during 1992-1993. She also visited the laboratories of Dr.Alan
Curry, Principal Electron Microscopes, PHLS at Withington Hospital, Manchester,
UK and Dr.David Brown, Director of PHLS at Colin Dale, London, UK respectively.
Dr Krishnan was a visiting researcher under the Japan International Coopration
Agency (JICA) research Project on "PREVENTION OF EMERGING DIARRHOEAL DISEASES"
to the laboratory of Dr Shuji Nakata, Assistant Professor,Department of Pediatrics,
Sapporo Medical University, Sapporo, Japan for tan months during 2000-2001.
She also visited Prof Osamu Nakagomi at Department of Microbiology, Akita University
School of Medicine to acquire the skill of genogrouping of rotaviruses and Prof
Hiroshi Ushijima, Department of Developmental Medical Sciences, Graduate School
of Medicine, The University of Tokyo to Honor his invitation and discuss about
the newly emerging trends in rotaviral infections from India.

Visited the laboratory of Dr Ulrich Desselberger, Consultant Virologist, Public Health Laboratory Services at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, and Department of Pathology, University of Cambridge from August 1992 to August 1993 under the Indo-UK Technical Cooperation Training Programme, in course of the Indo –UK collaborative Research Project “Role of zoonotic transmission in rotavirus infection”, to study molecular epidemiology of human rotavirus strains showing unusual long electropherotype and subgroup I nature.
2. Visited the laboratory of Dr Shuji Nakata, Asst. Professor, Department of Pediatrics as counterpart, and Prof Nishibuchi Kobayashi, Department of Hygiene, to learn molecular techniques such as reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction and sequencing for the detection and characterization of astroviruses and human caliciviruses from 29, August 2000 to 25, June 2001 during Individual Training Course in Virology at Sapporo Medical University organized by the Japan International Cooperation Agency under the International Cooperation Program of the Government
