LIBRARY NEWS LETTER

LIBRARY NEWS LETTER (A)

Lcated in Eastern Kolkata in the picturesque surrounding facing Subhas Sarobar Lake and next to the Infectious Diseases Hospital, National Institute Of Cholera & Enteric Diseases (NICED) is an Institute of international repute for research and training for Diarrhoeal Diseases. Ministry of Health and Family Welfare , Govt. of India has recognized NICED as one of the Institutes of Excellence in India. Amongst the ICMR Institutes, NICED has been ranked in the top for its academic achievements from the year 1999 till date.

To support the divergent and vigorous academic activity of the Institute the NICED library is fully geared to meet the needs of the scientists and other research workers. Also the research workers from other research institutes of the city avail of the prompt services rendered by the NICED library regularly. NICED Library has undergone several phases of modernization since its inception in the year 1962, when it started off with a mere collection of a few books. At the end of 1999, we were able to set up a Local Area Network (LAN) within the Institute with 17 nodes in different laboratories with the Server in the library. In 2000-2001 the LAN was extended with another 25 nodes providing thereby one node to each and every laboratory. The Servers are maintained by the library. One laser printer and two dot matrix printers kept in the library are also part of the LAN system to be accessed from all the nodes when needed.
